Abrasive Blasting

Abrasive (Grit Blasting)Abrasive (Grit Blasting) involves the use of compressed air and an abrasive medium and can be used for surface preparation, to remove previously applied coatings, corrosion deposits, etc, on all types of surfaces including steel, cast and wrought iron, concrete, timber, stone and plastic.

Blasting abrasive particles at a surface is the fastest and most effective way of descaling, deburring and cleaning both awkward interior and external surfaces

The work varies from establishing a good sound-working surface to promote the adhesion of a specific type of paint or coating. Or simply maintain the efficiency and life expectancy of a surface.

We have 3 Abrasive blasting “setups” in our fleet of equipment, run from one of our 400 cfm road towable compressors, we can also offer slurry blasting services with one of our UHP Water Jetting units and an NLB profiler nozzle, combining the power of UHP Water and Abrasive blasting.

Case Study

Catamaran blastingWe were approached by a firm in the south west who were in process of building a 17m Catamaran for export to the middle east, they wanted us to Grit Blast the External Hull, Decks, Bulwarks & Wheel house to
SA2.5 standard, removing all the mill scale and preparing the boat for painting.

We worked with the company, who did not want to interrupt the build for 3-4 days whilst we carried out our works, by carrying out our works during the night shifts, we used 2 Grit Blast pots and a 400 cfm compressor to prepare the metal. A 3 man team operated the equipment, with 2 Grit Blasters and a Safety Man.

Catamaran blastingWe then set about masking up the boat before applying the paint, we utilised both spray pumps and rollers for this application. Wet Film Thickness’ were recorded during application, with Dry Film Thickness’ taken before the application of the next coat.

We are proud of the finished article, across, which will enjoy a sound paint finish for many years to come.
