Cold Cutting
Specialist Blasting Services can provide specialist Cold Cutting services for applications where there is a requirement to cut any material, typically steel or concrete, in environments where the generation of a spark presents serious hazards.
Utilising NLB Cold Cutting Equipment and NLB Pumps, we can provide a solution to almost any cutting requirement, we have a variety of accessories, track, chain etc that allow us to efficiently cut flat steel plate, curved tanks to small diameter pipes.
Speeds of cut vary depending on the type of material and its composition, an example cutting speed of 1/4” thick mild steel would be 30 cm per minute. With no significant heat generated, and no sparks, it is a safe, efficient means of cutting in hazardous areas such as Refineries and Gas/LNG Storage sites.
Recent Project - 3m Diameter x 5m High Chemical Storage Tank - South Wales
Our client required a condemned Chemical Storage Tank to be decommissioned, and safely disposed off, allowing for a new tank to be put in its place.
We started by UHP Cold Cutting the Crown from the Tank, lifted it into a bunded area where we proceeded to UHP Blast the rubber lining from the inside of the crown.
Following this the remainder of the tank was Cold Cut into “rings”, with subsequent UHP Blasting of the rubber lining.
Finally all the rings were UHP Cold Cut in half moons for ease of disposal.
